10th INTERNATIONAL SPRING ACADEMY 2019 (ISA)

Transcultural and Transgenerational studies in groups with Sociodrama and Psychodrama

Exploring Internal and External Boundaries

in Groups and Society

30. 05. – 02. 06. 2019.

Sveti Martin na Muri (Croatia)

The International Spring Academy (ISA) focuses on sociodrama and resource-based psychodrama in different fields of practice. Socio- and psychodramatic learning aims for a better understanding and development of individuals and their social interactions in groups, organisations and society. It can be therefore applied in education, adult training, social work, coaching and supervision, individual counselling and psychotherapy.

While psychodrama is primarily centered around the individual as a protagonist in his/her psycho-social world, sociodrama is a group centered approach dealing with inter-group relations, which are shaped by complex historical, cultural, socio-political and transgenerational aspects. It puts an eye on collective factors and provides techniques to work successfully even in large groups.

History and purpose

During the annual meeting of the European Federation of Psychodrama Training Organisations 2009, representatives discussed the possibility of building a network among universities and private training institutes. One outcome of that discussion was the International Spring Academy (ISA). University lecturers, trainers and trainees of psychodrama and students in related subjects like education, sociology and psychology are invited to learn about themselves and their socio-cultural contexts by applying experiential methods and interventions.

Experienced psychodrama trainers conduct and supervise the work, which is done in a large group and in small groups.

A general topic for individual and group learning proposed for each meeting allows the individual and the small group to set specific focus to learn. Learning is thereby seen as an interconnected process which involves different levels of socio-political background, experiences in groups and organizations, and personal experiences which shape self-understanding and our biographies.

Above all, transcultural encounters and their development during the meeting will be a guiding principle. The 10th International Spring Academy is organized by the representatives of the participating institutes and universities.
